First off, there are a few things i considered before starting on the interior. the main idea is to soundproof, rustproof, and insulate the interior. The inspiration for this comes from the Heat, Rust & Noise in VW's website. This is a must-read if you're restoring any aircooled VW and you care about maximizing what little power your car's heating system has.
So, let's take a look at the interior of the bus before i started. click on the image to view the larger version in a new window. click on the link below to open the image up in this window.
Ok, so the exterior of the bus is tan, the carpeting is dark brown, the trim is light brown, the upholstery is beige, the curtains are dark brown, the door panels are beige vinyl. whoever did this obviously had some serious problems. there is just *way* too much brown going on here.
So, the carpeting is the first to go. The plan is to replace it with forest green. I'll leave the upholstery as is because it's in good shape, and it'll go nicely with the green. i'll be replacing the door and other side panels with 1/8" plywood, preferrably something nice like mahogany or another exotic hardwood.
